Somewhere along the way you are going to mishandle a situation. Mistakes are tough, but how you deal with the situation is most important. Follow these steps in order to turn your mistake into a learning experience.
Come clean – You should take full responsibility for your role in the mishap. Be honest about what happened and try to avoid getting defensive.
Offer an explanation – It’s always possible to learn from mistakes and you should make this clear to your bosses. Prior to meeting with your boss, create a list of possible solutions so that he/she knows that you are diligently trying to correct your errors. Let him/her know how you’re going to going to handle the situation differently next time.
Move on – Don’t dwell on the past – it is simply not productive. Continue to take risks, learn from your experience, and avoid repeating the same mistakes.
